The marketing push for Brave, Pixar’s first princess movie, is enormous and it was only a matter of time before obligatory character tie-ins arrived at the parks. Today the Disney Parks Blog has given word that Disney Parks, notably the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland will both be receiving Merida “play and greet” experiences. The “play” comes in prior to meeting Merida where you will be able to join in activities including archery lessons all under a Scottish setting inspired by the movie. Merida will be joined by her three bear cub friends as inspired by the film and they will be up to their playful antics as well (
no word yet if that means they will be audio animatronics). The biggest news here is that in the Magic Kingdom, Merida will be replacing Rapunzel and Flynn at Fairytale Garden.
Rapunzel’s popular meet and greet experience at the Magic Kingdom will move on April 15th to “the outskirts of Adventureland.” No other details were given. At Disneyland guests will meet Merida near “it’s a small world.” For more information and a quick look at some early sketch concept art, make sure to follow the source link.
We reached out to Shawn Slater, Communications Manager for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment, and he had this to say:
The bears are bears, of course!
As for Rapunzel, she’ll be on the porch of the Adventureland Verandah, on the end closest to Cinderella Castle and the Central Plaza.
The first sentence in reference to my question on whether the bear cubs would be audio-animatronic figures all but confirms the latter with a wink and a nod. If true, this would be neat and perhaps a preview of what we might see when Belle’s meet and greet opens in New Fantasyland at Enchanted Tales with Belle.
Rapunzel moving to the porch of the Adventureland Verandah means the Little Mermaid Meet & Greet will be moving to another location before eventually moving to her New Fantasyland meet and greet location later this year. Rapunzel’s move might also be temporary as rumors swirl that she could be moving to a new location near the new Fantasyland pathway under construction.
