Trails Near the Tree of Life See Construction On Pathways In Response To Last Week’s Incident

Posted by Raphael De Varona in Animal Kingdom, Theme Parks, Trip Reports

Last week Screamscape reported on a story found on Epcyclopedia.com that told of a small tree limb falling from Animal Kingdom’s park icon, the Tree of Life.  Though reportedly only weighing approximately five pounds and having landed away from cast members and guests Disney has closed the Tree of Life’s surrounding trails and the It’s Tough To Be A Bug attraction in order to assess the situation and make any necessary repairs and adjustments.  Well Da Mouse then visited Animal Kingdom on Saturday to see what progress had been made. We saw clearly visible construction of what appears to be the structure for what most likely eventually becomes a roofed pathway over parts of the trails near the backside of the Tree of Life.  It seems pretty clear that there is enough concern over last week’s incident to add these structures as an overabundance of caution but we aren’t ones to speculate so we’ll await word from Disney as we hope to contact them in regards to this situation soon.  There is still no timetable set for the reopening of the aforementioned areas and though I’m sure Disney is working diligently on these repairs, one could understand them taking their time make sure everything is ok.  For images of the construction taking place on the trails, be sure to click past the break.

That’s what Disney gets for being too cheap to maintain their park properly. Instead of spending the money to perform routine maintenance work, they hold off on it until it is completely necessary, just to save some dough. Because the company can never seem to have enough money.
Profits before safety, the Disney way.

Surely you are entitled to your opinion but it’d be nice to see some facts with those types of outlandish claims. Sure there are times where maintenance work is put off due to varying reasons but Disney maintains high safety standards or else people wouldn’t visit their parks. It is that simple really. I think we should await the facts before we rush to judgement on what happened and why it happened. Disney is held to impossibly high standards by its community of fans, detractors, the media and most importantly their own company culture. No one would say they or any company is perfect but I don’t think a rush to judgement is necessary or even reasonable at this point.

I’m curious, do you have inside information or actually work for Disney to be able to make those claims? If you visit Disney or read about Disney happenings going on at different times of the year you would see that attractions are constantly being closed for maintenance. I’ve visited Disney with my family many times and I am very pleased with the high level of safety Disney maintains, especially compared to other parks I have been to. As the last writer wrote everyone is entitled to their own opinion but opinions should be given with facts. Having witnessed first hand the constant maintanence being performed and also reading about it through multiple websites I believe my opinion is pretty accurate. By the way, I do not work for Disney I’m just a guest who believes credit should be given where it is due. Keep up the good work Disney. I for one appreciate the work you do for all of us. Also, I enjoy reading your stories Damouse. Keep up the good work.

I am a castmember at WDW of 8 years, and to say Disney doesn’t cut corners to the extreme is delusional. Their interest in safety is only in minimizing PR damage and cost. The parks are run very cheaply and profit margins soaring. It seems short sighted to me, but many guests don’t seem to care. You’re paying for more, getting less now than ever, and it will continue to decline until people vote with wallet. The county and state are in Disneys back pocket.

Thanks for voicing your thoughts Cmgary but can you give any specific (factual) examples of where Disney is cutting corners “to the extreme” on safety?

It seems you are mixing your opinions on safety and the overall state of Disney Parks but I’m always willing to listen. Oh and no need to call anyone here delusional.

A roofed pathway? Really? To be honest, I’d rather risk having a 5 lb branch fall on my head than take that imposing view away from me. There are a few perfect things at Animal Kingdom and they’re slowly disappearing this year…

So is all the construction done on the tree now?
