Disney Springs flows thematically from a center ‘spring’ outward towards the waterways that have always bordered Downtown Disney’s Westside and Marketplace, making use of water as a central feature of Disney’s retail expansion. The latter makes the Marketplace Causeway that bridges the two ends of Marketplace together all the more fitting as one of the first landmark openings of Disney Springs. Guests will now have quick and easy access from one side of Marketplace to the other, along with a few new shopping opportunities, afforded by the recently added shopping kiosks located at the start of the causeway.
Yet in many ways more important is that Disney Springs and this causeway begin the process of featuring the beautiful waterfront vistas that were always a part of Downtown Disney but not nearly as focused. It helps to balance the hectic nature of shopping, Disney crowds, with the serene and beautiful nature of these waterfront views and with the subtle story that Disney Springs hopes to impart on its visitors. Though not a major departure from the original released concept art, the Marketplace Causeway has largely been enhanced in execution. Most notably the structure of the themed suspension bridge has an archway and looks more substantial than what was first shown. Now it is just a matter of counting down till this new bridge opens and signals the end of an era for Downtown Disney and the beginning of what looks to be a beautiful Floridian chapter titled, Disney Springs.
