Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Construction Progress

This time next year Disney fans will have a new resort experience to be excited about.  Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opens next summer with almost 2,000 new units featuring themed rooms inspired by some of the greatest Disney films including The Lion KingCars, Finding Nemo and the The Little Mermaid.  But of course there is more.  Disney’s Art of Animation Resort features 1,120 family suites that include a master bedroom, 3 separate sleeping areas and two bathrooms that accommodate for up to six guests. Today’s update provides a look into the construction progress as of 5/22/11 as well as some of the project site plans that were featured at D23’s Destination D event at the Walt Disney World Resort just a couple of weeks ago.

Stating the obvious: This is one colorful lobby!
Resort Layout Overview: The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Cars (From Top to Bottom)
Finding Nemo Courtyard
The courtyards are designed to place you into the perspective of your favorite characters...in this case you are looking at the world from the size and perspective of Nemo.
Hence the Giant Crush...
Finding Nemo Rooms
The Resort is replacing what originally was going to be part of the Pop Century Resort (Years 1900-1950)

1950 is history...again.

Cars Courtyard Site Plan

The Cars themed rooms were very well received by D23 members at the Destination D event.
The Lion King Courtyard will allow you to walk under the "Hakuna Matata" scene!

The Lion King Themed Rooms are heavily themed and sure to delight the many Lion King fans out there.
A closer look reveals the "Inovabed" furniture piece in the suites that converts from a sizable dining table into a bed.

The Little Mermaid Rooms don't seem to be as nice as the others though I will reserve judgement till I see them upon completion. Perhaps this is because they are only themed rooms and will not feature the more detailed suites.
