Avatar Coming To Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Construction Begins In 2013

As Disney fans we are always looking for the next great thing coming from the creative minds within Disney Imagineering.  With construction well underway for New Fantasyland, fans have been anticipating and almost begging Disney to announce their next major attraction.  Many of us, Da Mouse included, were disappointed with the showing or lack thereof by Disney for the Walt Disney World Parks at Disney’s D23 Expo.  This caused an immediate fan backlash.  To their credit, they responded quickly and humbly with this statement pleading for fans to be patient as the timing wasn’t just right for announcements for Walt Disney World.  Whatever the reason for the hold-up, that is now well in the past because Disney has delivered with this incredible announcement.  Earlier today, Disney unveiled a partnership with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Filmed Entertainment to realize the fantastic worlds of AVATAR in Disney Parks.  Of course the news didn’t end there as we learned that the first park to feature the worlds of AVATAR would be Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Early indications are that the new land, yes NEW LAND, will be somewhere in the scale of the sizable Cars Land construction going on over at Disney’s California Adventure.  This almost certainly means you will see an E-Ticket attraction along with restaurants, shops and perhaps smaller entertainment and attraction offerings to boot.  We are still in the early stages of all of this as construction won’t begin till 2013 but we might get a few more details tonight from the Official Disney Blog.  So be sure to check there and as always we’ll make sure to bring you the latest on this and all things Disney.

So what do you think? Is this the grand announcement you’ve been waiting for? Let us know in the comments…
