In case you hadn’t heard, YouTube is taking on traditional cable providers where it hurts them the most, with content. Their intent is to launch 100 online channels with partners ranging from celebrities to media giants. And guess who they just announced a partnership with? Yup, you guessed it, Disney! Disney Interactive Media has teamed up with YouTube and they will dish out a combined $10 million to $15 million to create an original video series based on Disney’s popular iOS app “Where’s My Water?” which stars Swampy the alligator. These shorts and the other series to follow will be produced by Disney and they will be distributed on co-branded channels via Disney.com and of course YouTube.
Another interesting nugget of info comes from James A. Pitaro, co-president of Disney Interactive, who stated that a redesign of Disney.com is slated to be complete in the fall of 2012. For anyone, myself included, who thinks it is about time that Disney’s lethargic website got an overhaul this is welcome news. As always we’ll keep you posted on both stories as they develop.
