Storybook Circus is just a mini-land in the New Fantasyland expansion but yet it is so much more. Sure it is a replacement for Mickey’s Toontown Fair but that statement alone wouldn’t do what Disney has done here justice. They have given the Northeast corner of the Magic Kingdom life, a sense of place and some of that Disney pixie dust that we affectionately call simple Disney fun! No matter what you call it, Storybook Circus is a sign of things to come and therefore a great sign and great start to the New Fantasyland wonder and memories. So join us after the break and experience the big top circus that never was and always will be at the Magic Kingdom.
Every story at the Magic Kingdom begins and ends with Cinderella’s Castle 🙂
…but today we’ve got another couple of stars in our show.
…but before we get to that, look at how high the construction of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has reached that we can now see it over the construction walls!
After so much anticipation, this is it! Storybook Circus has arrived into town and we are going in!
So naturally our first stop is the Storybook Circus Trash Cans 😉
And keeping with Disney tradition the trash and recycling bins do a nice job of blending into the overall theming of the land.
Still a ton of construction walls surrounding Storybook Circus and on this one we find a Welcome sign with an incredible cast of Storybook Characters.
The many faces of Storybook Circus…
First the host of Pete’s Silly Sideshow, well Pete of course.
Humphrey the Bear is a classic Disney cartoon character that got his start in a Goofy cartoon, “Hold That Pose.”
The new star of Storybook Circus, Dumbo!
The lovable Casey Jr. soon to make his debut at Storybook Circus…
And last but certainly never least, the Great Goofini is in town for the circus as well!
Remember these lamp posts from our previous New Fantasyland Updates? Well they still look awesome.
When lamp posts have this much character you know that exciting things are ahead.
Here is a good look at the rock work construction that will “bridge” Journey of the Little Mermaid and Storybook Circus.
You can get a good sense here of the many stages the concrete rock work goes through from start to finish.
At least for the soft opening this Popcorn stand was the only food cart available in Storybook Circus.
Cast Members rockin’ the new Storybook Circus Costumes!
Stroller Parking follows us everywhere…
These temporary banners on the construction walls do a necessary job of continuing the theme as construction paces forward for the rest of Storybook Circus and New Fantasyland in general.
The floor details in Storybook Circus almost deserves a post of its own. There is cobblestone…
…all sorts of animal prints and even peanuts.
As you approach the center of the Dumbo the Flying Elephant Big Top Tent you can’t help but stare at this beautiful Dumbo Crest.
Finally we get an up close look at these nicely decorated lamp posts that we had previously seen from oh so far away.
What can I say? This Dumbo Marquee is worth a double-take.
And there my friends is Dumbo the Flying Elephant in all its newfound glory.
Where do we begin to describe it all? Well first thing you’ll notice is the amazing colors! The vehicles, the spinner itself and the surrounding tents all make for a very visual experience.
It sure looks like a ton of fun and with the new music it truly is a grand experience. Oh an don’t forget the awesome new fountains pouring water into the pool beneath your flying pachyderm.
It is truly a night and day difference from the previous Dumbo the Flying Elephant Spinner, just look at all the amazing details. Oh and speaking about a night and day difference, more on that later! 😉
Mrs. Jumbo and Mr. Stork are now represented in 3D figurines on the spinner itself.
Cute is not my favorite word but how else can you describe this lovable fellow?
The colors are striking and with tents as a background everything now just fits.
…bringing you every angle of Storybook Circus 😉
We are passionate about all things Disney but their is little we love here at Da Mouse then praising the hard work of others and their attention to detail. When you do a great job, it speaks for itself. And on Dumbo the Flying Elephant in true Disney fashion it is about layers of details all the way down to the finishings on the custom railings.
Notice the fountains! They are beautiful ornaments that give an incredible look to the attraction but also an incredible sound as you hear the pleasing sound of rushing water following in the pool underneath.
And if you notice yet another incredible feature of the new Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Movie Art Murals!
Pink Elephants on Parade you say?
How about Dumbo performing amongst the burning building inside the center ring?
This mural is a fantastic recreation of the final scene of the movie.
“Casey Jr. is comin’ down the track…”
So that is how Dumbo landed in Storybook Circus 😉
Baby Dumbo…all at once…aaaawwweee.
Timothy giving Dumbo a pep talk before his big performance.
There is so much to see now on Dumbo the Flying Elephant and it truly looks elegant.
Did we forget to mention that the fountains have lights?! This may not seem like much now but wait till you see Dumbo at night, these LED’s are a game-changer.
Elephants flying gets them every time.
So much more from Storybook Circus, we are just getting started!
