The Walt Disney World Resort began to roll out new Next-Gen RFID scanners throughout the Contemporary Resort in hopes of fine-tuning the system that should find its way to every payment location at the Mouse’s world. The scanner featured in the post today was in testing at the Contempo Cafe within the Contemporary Resort earlier this month and can also be found at other locations throughout the Resort including at the various gift shops.
The RFID Scanner works with the new “Key to the World” Cards that enable you to make payments by placing the card over the large Mickey “My Disney Experience” Logo that will light up green if the transaction is completed. It makes for a much easier to use experience and there is little doubt the warmth of the activated green Mickey logo creates more of an emotional imprint than with your average run of the mill payment system. The system also allows for legacy payment transactions using the conventional magnetic card swipe feature.
The RFID payment scanners are just another piece to the ever growing Next-Gen puzzle at Disney Parks which will see the “My Disney Experience” New FASTPASS system tested once again soon at the Magic Kingdom. Whether it be acquiring a FASTPASS, entering your room or paying for a meal, Disney is moving to make those operations as seamless and effortless as possible.
