The story of Downtown Disney hasn’t exactly been a sparkling one for Walt Disney World of late. After the 2011 D23 Expo brought a pitiful slate of Walt Disney World announcements fans were told that Downtown Disney would be in the mix of exciting new projects soon to be unveiled for Walt Disney World. This undoubtedly was in relation to the now stalled revamp of the former Pleasure Island area that was set to receive a relatively exciting re-theming and convert it into the Hyperion Wharf. And although paths were widened and dirt moved nothing more ever came of it and Downtown Disney remains plagued with most of the same issues it has had since its inception. Luckily it isn’t all doom and gloom, in fact under this mess some shining precious gems have arisen that while not enough by themselves, provide the type of escapes you expect from Downtown Disney.
The latest of these gems is Splitsville, opening its doors to the public December 19, 2012 with its juxtaposition of modern cuisine and amenities with a retro-bowling atmosphere. From the outside the decor is simple but beautiful and perfectly ties into the Splitsville branding and the surrounding Downtown Disney area as well. With an outdoor bar and outdoor seating areas on the second level it will certainly bring a bit of the nightlife buzz to this part of Downtown Disney. Inside guests will find over 30 lanes amongst the two floors and can expect upscale eats rather than typical bowling fare. We’ll have more from Splitsville in the coming days but for now enjoy our latest photo update and Disney’s promo video of the new luxury lanes.
