Disney’s Animal Kingdom has picked up the torch of construction that the Magic Kingdom began with New Fantasyland and every day the theme park edges closer to its new day in the sun but more importantly those new wonderful nights filled with entertainment and thrill. Although there will be several nighttime experiences debuting in 2016 including the nighttime expeditions of Kilimanjaro Safaris there is no question, the Walt Disney Company hopes Rivers of Light will be the game-changer that other nighttime experiences have been for other Disney theme parks with shows like Fantasmic! and Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. Rivers of Light promises to combine many show effects like smoke, projections on water screens (some of which will move on barges) and live performers for a lyrical adventure that celebrates the theme of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, nature and animals. Now just months away from opening night we return to the construction site.
There is a ton of work that has taken place backstage to prepare for the nightly performances of Rivers of Light but our focus is on what guests will encounter whilst at Walt Disney World’s fourth major theme park. The banks of Discovery River near Expedition Everest continue to be the primary focus of construction as that’s where the rows of themed seating have been formed. Elsewhere construction continues at several points along the discovery river for what should support some of the show’s effects. It’s the slow and steady drumbeat of Rivers of Light construction that will give way to real drums soon as Animal Kingdom continues its march forward at the Walt Disney World Resort.
