On the eve of Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge opening at Disneyland and soon at Walt Disney World there was one more important thing to attend to. Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ 30th Anniversary. It’s pretty obvious what the headliner would have been for that day but instead Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway got pushed back into a 2020 opening. So that leaves us with a new logo for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A nice kinetic logo on screen, a somewhat bland logo on paper and a Distinctly Disney IP-filled logo for the park’s signature marquee once inside the gates.
I could rant about the loss of character in the logo even as Woody and BB-8 joined Mickey on it. But I’ve been talking about the sterilization of the Disney brand on Da Mouse for years before it was cool to rant about it on twitter or the many Disney online forums. Instead this time I’m going to just share the news because I for one don’t even believe we won’t still get a name change to this park in the coming years anyway. As part of the likely transition you’ll notice the demotion of the word Studios. For years now it has referenced Disney’s various movie and animation studios over the concept of a working studio in Orlando. Luckily this news is just one more sign that we are closer to the opening of Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge and it can’t come soon enough.
