At the last D23 Expo we learned what the flagship attraction opening for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary would be. The popular TRON Lightcycle Power Run from Shanghai Disneyland is making its way stateside to Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. Now things are getting exciting as the Tron roller coaster steel supports are rising in an expansion plot just behind the rerouted Tomorrowland Speedway. The area extends past the furthest reaches of the Walt Disney World Railroad, itself needing to prepare for the attraction’s gargantuan footprint.
The red construction crane looms large over Tomorrowland’s construction site. A closeup of the beautiful roller coaster steel support beams that will eventually hold roller coaster track for Tron. An expansive overview of the work going on in the expansion plot near Space Mountain. Steel supports rise to build Disney’s flagship attraction at the Magic Kingdom for its 50th Anniversary. Disney magic being created with heavy machinery. Concrete foundations have been poured at this massive Tron construction site at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
You can see in the photos the massive scale of these support beams and the concrete foundation poured alongside them. In person they are already a sight to behold. We are talking early days here. Soon the amount of steel at this construction site will be breathtaking. After the steel coaster is constructed, we will see the construction of the massive canopy that will redefine this area of the Magic Kingdom.
Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON Lightcycle Power Run is an incredibly impressive, modern and visually stunning coaster. The main flaw of the coaster is its length but it will still stand to be an extremely popular addition to the Walt Disney World resort. Although I’d have like to have seen an all-new attraction arrive at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, I’m still very excited to ride Tron and can’t wait to see what Tomorrowland’s skyline looks like when it’s completed. We’ll be bringing you the latest from the Tron construction site right here on Da Mouse as concept turns to reality.
