Disney+ streaming video service launch leads to a good week for the Walt Disney Company.

Disney’s Road to Coronavirus Recovery: Disney Q3 2020 Earnings LIVE!

It’s no secret that the Walt Disney Company has been one of the hardest hit companies during the Covid-19 pandemic. There have been very few financial bright spots for Disney but now Disney Parks around the world (sorry Disneyland Resort) have undergone phased reopening. This quarterly earnings report will not be pretty but we should get a better sense for the direction the company is heading. We’ve heard the rumors of pending layoffs and with the moves Universal Parks and Comcast have taken in that regard, sadly it would be shocking if Disney didn’t follow suit. We’ll surely hear some interesting details from the CEO of the Walt Disney Company Bob Chapek, on the progress the company has made despite the headwinds of a global pandemic. As theme parks fans we’ll be especially interested to hear any insight related to Disney Parks as well as any news on Disney+. We’ll have live commentary as it all goes down right here on Da Mouse.

It was an interesting Earnings call, there is still much information that I need to dive through and look into. On the call itself we got one message. The Walt Disney Company is diverting almost its entire focus into the Direct to Consumer streaming business. This was already happening with the launch of Disney+ and linear TV producing negative growth for as long as I can remember but Covid-19 certainly is accelerating that shift.  What this all means for Parks and Resorts remains to be seen as they are remaining just positive overall in their operations and are clearly still facing many headwinds without a vaccine and flare ups across the globe.  We also remain skeptical that Disney isn't letting go of a percentage of their workforce though of course we pray they figure out some way of not letting go some of their employees.  Thanks as always for tuning in and we hope we've helped you understand a little better how Disney is adapting in the post Covid world.

Disney skirted a question on Walt Disney World hotel occupancy. I can answer that question. Pretty abysmal, there are entire hotels still not in operation.

The often delayed Mulan live action film will launch on Disney+ on September 4th for $29.99.  This will allow Disney to try out a new Direct to Consumer offering on Disney+ that has been their most successful vehicle during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is a somber, somber tone being given by Disney CEO Bob Chapek as he reads his prepared statements.

He mentions the need for social justice changes and how Disney is working to increase diversity.

He also mentions the partnership with the NBA, that has allowed for the restart of the NBA season at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

Hello everyone and welcome to Da Mouse LIVE!

Today is a pivotal moment in the Walt Disney Company's history, where we should get a clearer picture into how Disney is performing in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.  It has been a difficult time for everyone not least of which are Cast Members, many of them still furloughed at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and we hope the Walt Disney Company can regain its footing in the not-to-distant future. Thank you for joining us.
